The Legacy Project--William E. Dugger, Jr., DTE
Moye, Johnny J.; Dugger, William E., Jr.
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v76 n2 p36-39 Oct 2016
This is the ninth in a series of articles entitled "The Legacy Project." The Legacy Project focuses on the lives and actions of leaders who have forged the educator profession into what it is today. Members of the profession owe a debt of gratitude to these leaders. One simple way to demonstrate that gratitude is to recognize these leaders and some of their accomplishments. The focus in this issue will be on Dr. William E. Dugger, Jr., DTE. In this interview, Dugger, Jr. responds to the following questions: (1) What was your career like before you became known as the "Standards Man" for ITEA/ITEEA (International Technology Education Association/International Technology and Engineering Educators Association) and the profession? (2) What were your concerns as you worked with the association members to change the name of the association from the American Industrial Arts Association to the International Technology Education Association? (3) You were involved in the creation of national standards long before "Standards for Technological Literacy" ("STL"). What were those standards, who funded them, and what kind of standards were they? (4) What problems did you face when working on the proposal for "Standards for Technological Literacy" (e.g., what type of standards to create, no rationale and structure to start with, etc.)? and (5) What do you consider the biggest achievement resulting from "STL"?
