Non-technical factors contributing to Triangle Research Libraries Network development are outlined: history of cooperation, common interests, Title II-C and other funding, core of advocates, and organizational structure. Abstract:
This report represents the extended research following an initial three-year grant reported on in 1975. Goals were: (1) to enact, observe, and assess the results of a program in which medical librarians become integral members of multi-disciplinary patient care and educational teams; and (2) to test the ability of these Clinical Medical Librarians (CMLs) to search, select, and provide information. Research revealed four major findings: (1) CMLs identify and state the information needs of their users with an accuracy of 91.1 per cent; (2) 75.8 per cent correlation exists between the judgment of the CML and that of the user as to the pertinence of the information selected by the CML; (3) a limited number of journals produce most of the documents pertinent to the users' information needs; and (4) a Clinical Document Citation File developed by CMLs has been used in two hospitals. Data tables and figures are included within the report. The extensive appendices include a summary of data collection and analysis, evaluation comments, and journal frequency list--overall, by users, by subject areas, and by disciplines.
