Abstract:	Distance learning is a vital part of today's educational environment. Using complex technology, schools are able to connect instructors and students across geographic, physical, and temporal boundaries. Sophisticated software and world-wide connectivity create virtual classrooms that span the globe. These large, accessible, asynchronous, distributed architectures require innovative management and administration. This article discusses a new method that allows distance learning instructors to create consistent, unique account identifiers for students independently, greatly reducing the administrative overhead for online learning. Consistent and unique means the same identifier will be created for a student, every time. This method is an innovative solution to a complex problem. It enhances the distributed administration of student accounts, makes it easier for the instructor to create the accounts, and allows the students to have a single account to access all their courses. The concept can be used to support the generation of virtually any type of user identifier and be applied in a centralized system administration scenario. This type of tool can be enhanced to run with little or no user interaction and may be added into the registration process. (Contains 1 figure.)
