Abstract:
This book attempts to construct a deep and broad understanding of interdisciplinary work and the types of scholarships collected under that rubric. The conceptualization of interdisciplinarity is based on interviews with faculty who are engaged in its practice. The chapters are: (1) Considering Interdisciplinarity; (2) Disciplining Knowledge; (3) Profiling Interdisciplinarity; (4) Constructing Interdisciplinarity; (5) Pursuing Interdisciplinarity; (6) Abiding Interdisciplinarity: The Impact of Academic Contexts; (7) Tracing Interdisciplinarity: Scholarly Outcomes and (8) Realizing Interdisciplinarity. An appendix discusses "Study Design and Conduct." (Contains 189 references.) (SLD)
