Abstract:Applying transaction cost and agency theories to the classroom suggests that some students may engage in opportunism. Preventive practices may create a "Golem" effect of negative self-fulfilling prophecies. By creating an atmosphere of trust, teachers may engender the Pygmalion effect of positive self-fulfilling prophecies. (Contains 20 references.) (SK)
