Abstract:This book examines how to generate successful professional development programs. There are 14 chapters in five parts. Part 1, "Set the Stage for Powerful Professional Learning," includes: (1) "The Case for Powerful Professional Learning"; (2) "Stretch Goals, Deep Change, and a Compelling Vision"; and (3) "A Compelling Vision for Professional Learning." Part 2, "Provide a Context for Professional Learning," includes: (4) "Develop the System to Improve Learning"; (5) "School System Responsibilities"; and (6) "A Goal for District Action: All Schools as Professional Learning Communities." Part 3, "Develop School Leaders," includes: (7) "School Leadership" and (8) "The Development of Principals and Teacher Leaders." Part 4, "Develop Teachers," offers: (9) "Focus Teacher Development on Student Learning" and (10) "Continuous Improvement of Teaching and Learning." Part 5, "Get to the Heart of the Matter," includes: (11) "Look for Root Causes"; (12) "Lead for a Transformation in Professional Learning"; (13) "The Power of What We Think"; and (14) "Create Schools in Which Everyone's Job Is To Learn."
