Abstract:Developed to serve as a comprehensive science methods text for elementary school teachers, this book combines method with content and presents 294 science activities for classroom use. The activities are organized by content areas into 20 chapters and address topics such as sound, weather, plants and animals, oceans, nutrition, and the environment. Each activity is followed by a listing of the science processes that can be taught as part of the activity. The key features of this text include its: (1) activities approach (integrating content, methods, and processes); (2) use of discrepant events (for increasing student motivation); (3) three-step activity approach (including set induction, investigation, and resolution); and (4) lists of simple and easy to find materials.
