New "Keep" Lists Help Librarians Manage ERIC Microfiche

June 20, 2010

ERIC now offers online access to more than 300,000 older documents originally available only in microfiche. Librarians seeking to reduce the size of their microfiche collection can consult the Librarian area of the ERIC website for lists created to support their microfiche weeding efforts.

In addition to lists of documents that can be pulled from the microfiche collection because they are available online ("pull" lists), ERIC now offers lists of documents that should be retained because they are not currently online ("keep" lists). "Keep" lists include documents produced between 1966 and 2004.

Librarians just beginning the weeding effort should consider using the "keep" lists to streamline their work. There will be fewer microfiche to handle since more than half of the microfiche collection is now available electronically.

For more details about the lists, see Weeding Your Microfiche Collection.
