ERIC website Offers Resources for Search Training

As the academic year begins, faculty members and librarians who show others how to use ERIC may wish to investigate the following training resources available from the ERIC website:

  • Downloadable Quick Tips
  • Search Tutorials
  • Context-Sensitive Help

The three downloadable Quick Tips are Getting Started, Using Descriptors, and Using Field Codes. They help familiarize ERIC users with basic and advanced searching, and the use of controlled vocabulary and two-letter codes to increase search precision.

The 19 animated tutorials provide 1- to 3-minute introductions to various aspects of using ERIC. Topics include refining searches, citation management, and online submission, among others. The tutorials are accessible from a landing area on the website as well as from ERIC's YouTube channel, .

Context-sensitive Help is available when users perform one of these actions:

  • Click on text with dotted underscoring to open a pop-up Help tip, as shown,
    or
  • Select Help With This Page Help With This Page to see a list of relevant aids available.

Finally, ERIC users are invited to be in touch by leaving an e-mail message on the ERIC website or by phoning an ERIC customer service agent at 800-LET-ERIC (800-538-3742).
