Abstract:The history of Asian Americans is filled with abuses against them from virtually every segment of society and from every level of government. Fortunately, Asian Americans, as well as members of other minority groups, are able to turn to a number of state and federal statutes aimed at protecting their civil rights. Government, legal, and community organizations help provide a range of services for those minorities who have been victimized. This guide is designed to help Asian Americans in Massachusetts identify some of their basic rights. It outlines steps to take when these rights may be in jeopardy, and it identifies resources for information, support and action. The resources are grouped in to the key areas of: (1) hate crimes; (2) employment; (3) housing; (4) education; (5) domestic violence; and (6) public accommodations. Each section begins with general information about the issue and a discussion of what to do if one has been victimized in the area in question. Government agencies, legal resources, and community organizations that provide help are then listed. (SLD)
