Abstract:This monograph presents the papers and addresses of the Sixth Rochester Institute, an annual joint staff development effort of Rochester Community College and the University of Minnesota. W. Wesley Tennyson and Sharon Strom present a case for career development education to be used as a fulcrum to swing education further towards humanistic rationales. Erika C. Boehm presents a humanistic methodology for achieving more effective teaching. Joe Parks presents a way to teach minority literature. Euguen G. Hallongren describes a program allowing credit by demonstrated competence, and Susan W. Broberg describes a way to deal with the clinical evaluation of nursing students. The three major addresses presented at the coordinate Symposium include: Richard Richardson's examination of the assets to be used in the crucial years facing two-year post-secondary institutions; Michael Paradise's description of the totally individualized instructional approach attempted at Nebraska's Central Technical Community College; and John Megger's examination of the problem of tuition as it relates to life span development.
